A passion for wine that began in Oiwake Asahi, Abira Town
From 110 trees to 29,000
History of the Arrom Winery Vineyard
In 2021, test cultivation of wine grapes began in the vineyards of Abira Town, Hokkaido, surrounded by the cool climate and rich nature of the area. Abira Town's climate provides an ideal environment for grape cultivation, which requires strict conditions such as rainfall, hours of sunshine, and temperature differences between day and night.
A year of test cultivation confirmed that the growing conditions were very good and the quality of the grapes was promising. Based on this success, the scale of cultivation was gradually expanded. Currently, approximately 29,000 wine grapes of 16 varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc, are carefully cultivated on a vast vineyard of approximately 14 hectares.
All seedlings are planted by hand, with meticulous care taken to prevent the roots from drying out even under the scorching sun and to avoid damaging the new shoots. The vines are also supported for healthy growth by dealing with natural threats such as pests, vermin, and frost damage.
